economist ipad
what is the mean of the “open”?

I read this sentence in the “The economist”:IT’S OBVIOUS who the early buyers of the iPad will be: the fanboys and early adopters who just have to have the latest Apple toy. Pre-orders for the iPad have been open for a week, and already people are trying to work out how many have been sold so far. what is the meaning of “open” in this scentence?

It means that it has been possible to pre-order the iPad. Not get it, yet, but get in line to get it once it is available. In this context, “open” means available, ready to go.
